| Mr.
Philipsen, the president of ArchPlan Inc., has over two and a
half decades of experience with residential design and
housing. His thesis at the University
of Stuttgart, Germany, dealt with, among other things,
the typology of residential floor
plans.
The role of the
architect in Germany includes many aspects which in the
US are typically the
responsibility of the General Contractor such as:
Quantity take off, bidding and
negotiating each individual trade and organizing the
construction schedule. This
background allows Mr. Philipsen a particular
understanding of cost and the needs of
construction.
In 1976 he worked
with public housing residents on the rehabilitation of
their units and published a tenant
hand book. He worked as project manager/architect in
award winning mid size design firms
in Germany and the US and in his own company on the
following housing and residential
