HISTORIC PRESERVATION

Preservation and use of existing buildings is a sustainability strategy. In addition, historic preservation is a tool to maintain the identity of places. Historic preservation needs to be seen both, at the building scale as well as at the urban design or even city scale. ArchPlan has developed special expertise in renovation and rehabilitation projects that are located in historic districts and/or are designated historic landmarks. Projects include single family homes and multifamily housing as well as the adaption of office or industrial buildings for housing using preservation tax credits either as cash payouts to individuals or as syndicated tax write offs.
We take special pride in design solutions which pair modern interventions or additions with careful restoration of historic components. The results have been creative and attractive projects which satisfy the Maryland Historic Trust and the National Park Service requirements, while also providing contemporary solutions to current market needs. ArchPlan is familiar with State and National preservation requirements including the new Maryland Sustainable Communities program.
